Repair Install to Fix Windows 7 Without Reformatting by Britec

Why do I need to do a Repair Installation?

You have tried System Restore and it did not help fix your Windows 7 issues.
You have tried all options ie: chkdsk /r sfc /scannow system restore etc etc to fix your Windows 7 Installation.
You do not want to do a fresh install of Windows 7.
You do want to preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.

So if you have answered all above then the time is right to do a Repair Install of your Operating System.

Your need:

1. Standard Win7 installation DVD
2. Original 25-character product key (This can be found on a sticker on your PC/Laptop or paperwork that come with your retail copy of Windows 7.)
Lost your product key? well you can recover it with magic jellybean for free.

3. Doing a Repair Install with Windows 7 SP1 with a Pre-SP1 DVD?, then you need to uninstall SP1 before proceeding with the Repair Install. Just uninstall from add and remove programs like I show you in the video.

4. In-case it goes wrong, remember Backup, Backup, Backup before you proceed with the Repair Install.

I too have the same problem of not being able to uninstall service pack 1 from my Windows 7 professional o/s. But I used my pre sp1 dvd anyway and it works, because when the program connects to the internet to update itself, it applies the later sp1 version automatically to the installation. After that it ran fine for me after removing itunes from my desktop computer.

Hey, looks like I may have to do this. Only issue is you say you have to install from the desktop, then, as if by magic, the install screen fades in????? How or what do we do to get that to happen? 🙂

Did what you said that was the only part that worked. Now my Notepad , wordpad, and bookmarks are hidden unless I hover over them or click on them . The only section that do show up now are highlighted in green.
Any other help can you offer?

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, and confirmed that under "System" in the control panel. It does indeed say 64 bit. I have a Win 7 All install DVD and I've selected Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, the exact same version I'm running, and tried it more than once. During the compatibility check, it fails and says something like you can't upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows when running 32 bit and vice versa. How can I get past this compatibility error so it will let me reinstall?

Also my original problem I'm trying to solve on a Dell Inspiron N4030 laptop is that it won't allow me to enable the Windows firewall, or the wireless network adapter. (Not sure if the 2 problems are related)

Different issue; Ran Windows updates, when restarting to apply changes it will not go back into Windows…Tried repair and does not work, Sys Restore does not work, last known good configuration does not work…anyway to uninstall recent updates using cmd? Safe Modes also do not work, so can only use cmd from the Repair computer option after hitting F8

Great set of videos. Video of yours from 2009 LOL got me into Windows replacing registry hive files. I restored them from an image backup to the desktop and then copied them over the ones there already while in a boot rescue disk environment. Now this helped me fix it completely. Getting ready to make an image backup now. Saved me alot of time…alot. Thx. 🙂
