Check out this “how to” mod I’ve just completed on my Sega Game Gear, repair by replacing the capacitors and then a guide on how to upgrade to power the console off a 5v USB C cable with a step up giving me true 9v power and the convenience of being able to power up off a mobile phone USB power bank, USB socket or a mobile phone charger.

Very nice 👍. I was going to buy a original power pack but I'm sure to do this instead.

i would have used a xl6009 dc to dc converter these are perfect and have a small profile. i currently have 1 installed in my game gear to power the dsi back light mod as my original back light blew

I know there was a red, limited edition of the game gear. But then the outside should be red, obviously. Could it be a repainted red GG? What an odd thing either way. O_o

Always wished Nintendo had put a lit screen in the Gameboy colour. GG was too big. Had an Atari lynx for a short time buy that was also massive.

I’d have done this mod differently with an internal lipo battery and a power bank PCB and bypassed the original power board to feed 5v directly to the system. May as well bypass 90s dcdc converters if possible

This seems like a frankly weird way of powering the game gear no issue with your logic but it would have been easier to use a usb panel connector then you can mount with screws and glue for stability. A dedicated 9v pcb has more quality control than a closed box cable

Definitely going to mod my Game Gear to have this as buying a charging cable for the thing is quite difficult and annoying. Great video!
