Days Gone | The Ultimate Critique | Luke Stephens

Days gone is one of the most confusing games I have ever played. Not confusing in its gameplay or story, but in the fact that it’s way better than it seems. In other words, if I had to briefly explain my feelings towards Days Gone, I’d say that it’s the worst best game I’ve played in a long time. This may seem needlessly vague and confusing but that’s honestly representative of how I feel. So much of this game is great, but it has a HUGE presentation problem. It’s like a supermodel walking down the runway but she keeps tripping and ruining what would otherwise be a fantastic presentation. All that being said, I think Days Gone is worth a playthrough, with several caveats. I played through the game on a PS4 Slim and the God of War edition of the PS4 Pro. The game ran significantly better on the pro, so much so that switching back to the slim was quite jarring. Please understand that the technical issues in Days Gone are omnipresent and won’t go away just because you have a Pro, but they are reduced. If you’re wondering what kind of technical issues I’m talking about, don’t worry, I’m going to go in depth on those issues towards the end of the video, but to avoid spoilers I’ll just say this: Days gone is a blast, but limps along its excessive main quest line without much focus or determination. The average person’s 40 hour run is well worth it just for the last 10 or so hours. But be warned, if you have trouble ignoring or adapting to frame drops and glitches in general, you’ll likely become overly frustrated with the game before you get there. If it were polished, it would be in the running for GOTY, but here’s the thing, it isn’t. People come to my videos to see if a game is worth playing and to hear honestly what its value, strengths and weaknesses are. I have a duty to be honest. My instinct is to just recommend the game because I enjoyed it and call it a day. But I’d be doing YOU a disservice were I to do that. All of this is because after two runs and over 80 hours, I can safely say that the game should be about half the length it is. Buckle in, we’re gunna break down the full game starting… NOW!

Thank you for watching! I love you all, oh so much!

  2. My take on Boozer is that he's integral to the story of the next game. Maybe his death drives the narrative of the sequel. But then why pseudo kill him twice? It's just messy but I really have enjoyed it

  3. The marauder clipping through the roof glitch happened to me a couple times with hordes not with guys with guns

  4. When deacon freaked out because he shot someone in the head to survive that was at the beginning of the outbreak. But bashing an infected toddler with the bat is 2 years in….come on now

  5. I would like to say I thought the game was pretty good my only problem was to make side things like daydreaming but other then that definitely awesome… RIP Deacon st. John

  6. Unintersting character beside the O'brien story!?!?!?! The entire Ripper storyline was uninteresting?!?!

21:50 Doctors legit do fhat in the real world all the time…

  7. I love this game to death but it sucks cause I only have a base ps4 so when I drive my bike my frames drop to like 15

  8. I encountered a good amount of bugs. Even fell through the world a few times. But i still enjoyed days gone.

  9. Man, you missed on a lot of your criticisms. If you would’ve just paid more attention a lot of your gripes wouldn’t exist.

  10. I think what was less of a consequence was how Deacon got exactly the same injury as Boozer but was fine. No infection. No amputation. Just some medicine and he was good as new

  11. The subtitles in this game annoyed me so much, how they could only fit one word below the sentence and it wasn't in the centre

  12. I REALLY wish that this game had narrative choices. I'm such a fan of games like Telltales TWD, DBH and RDR2 that give you the option to choose your own story, even if it's the illusion of choice, it still allows you to decide the personality and morality of your player. There were so many times that Deacon was in a situation when he could decide whether to kill or save someone, whether to side with one character or another. The story would've been so much better if they gave us these choices

  13. I waited to get this game until it came down in price. I got it for $30 and enjoy it so much and honestly I wish I bought it at full price just to support those who made it happen that much more. It’s great and a lot of fun.

At the end of the day that’s what we play games for is fun, and this is just a blast to play

  14. I guess I was just one of those lucky few where I didn't experience any glitches or bugs. Just a few frame drops here and there but nothing to the point where it ruined or distracted me from gameplay. I bought the game at launch with an og PS4

  15. Interesting! The storyline about Nero/O’Brien which you hate is the storyline I was most excited for and kept waiting for O’Briens return to get more info. The mystery of how/why the freak virus exists and what happened to Sarah with the Nero team and what she was studying… I was soooo hooked!

  16. Another must play Sony Exclusive, definitely a buy in my opinion.

Really don’t agree with your critique there, so I might as well drop my dislike

  17. the start of the game straight way establishes Deacon not willing to sacrifice boozer for Sarah… so him dying after all this just to be with sarah would be so fucking stupid… can't tell if you smart or just think you are

  18. Jessie leading the Rippers isn't coincidence or "kitchy". The ENTIRE reason why Boozer had his arm burnt and there was a bounty on him and Deacon is because that's what The Mongrels did to Jessie when they exiled him from the MC. You see the scarring in his back. It's literally all explained there's nothing circumstantial about it whatsoever.
